- Large hospitals, meaning those with more than 100 staffed inpatient beds that are not critical access or rural emergency hospitals, report their three top community health needs, the spending on each, and spending on quality improvement and nonclinical programming.
- Hospitals with net patient revenue above $100,000,000 report allowable and unallowable advertising costs, gross receipts and costs for each health service line, and data on drugs purchased under the 340B program. The revenue threshold rises with inflation for taxable years beginning after 2028.
- All tax-exempt hospitals report the value of financial assistance provided and the number of applications received, granted, and denied, with separate reporting for each facility at large and high-revenue hospitals.
- The Department of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Treasury Secretary, publishes a standardized health service line taxonomy within two years of enactment and updates it at least every five years. The reporting requirements for certain hospitals take effect one year after that taxonomy is published.
